Leaving on a Jet Plane…

This afternoon I’m flying out to Harvard for the final research meeting of my two- year fellowship there. It’s feels very odd to be leaving Britain at the beginning of the General Election – the first one I won’t be actively involved in since 1992.

Lots of people have asked me whether I would seek to go back to Parliament in this election. I’ve always been clear that I would ‘never say never’ about standing again. But as I say in the book, I think you always have to look forward and not backwards in life. And standing again now, after less than two years, would have been a backward-looking decision for me.

But I’ll be thinking this week of all the candidates – like Yvette – who will be scrambling to get their photos and election literature ready. Politics is a noble profession and it requires good people to put themselves forward. So good luck to them all.

At Heathrow airport I had my first sighting of the just-published Paperback edition of my book. You can get it here – I hope you enjoy the extra Strictly chapter and photos! Do let me know.
