Community groups making a valuable difference in our area may now be eligible for part of a £50,000 funding boost from West Yorkshire Police. The funding is available to voluntary and community groups working on projects which support local policing priorities.

If, like me, you think the summer isn't complete without spending some time at the seaside, you'll be glad to hear there's no need to leave Wakefield. Next weekend the seaside is coming to us. On Saturday between 10am and 4pm the cathedral precinct will be taken over with sandcastles, donkey rides and puppet shows in the centre of the city.

The general election campaign is now well underway, and that means that I formally stopped being the MP for the constituency of Normanton on Monday 12th April when Parliament was dissolved.
Instead I am the parliamentary candidate for the new constituency of Morley and Outwood. The Normanton constituency office on the High Street will still be open - from 10am til 4pm on week days - throughout the election campaign, so that work on essential casework can continue. |

We know that doing well in Maths and English is really important, though I also think it's crucial that we recognise and nurture other talents and skills in young people.
So I was very pleased to be asked to present a range of awards to children at Stanley St Peters Primary School earlier today. The awards recognise skills like leadership, and contributions to school life - they give a real sense of the school as part of a community as well as a great place to learn. |
