Extra support to help Wakefield homeowners

There's good news for homeowners in our area today. The Government have announced that Wakefield will be one of 30 areas to receive extra help for people struggling with housing costs.

I've heard from constituents who are working hard to keep up with their mortgage payments, but are feeling the pinch, and could do with a bit of advice or support.

I think we should do everything in our power to help people hold on to their homes. That's why I'm delighted that Wakefield has been chosen to get this extra boost.

A special helpline and website will be promoted across the district, which will offer advice and assistance to homeowners at risk of repossession.

An advertising drive will also highlight the comprehensive range of support available for struggling homeowners. The adverts will encourage people to visit the Government’s repossessions help website at www.direct.gov.uk/mortgagehelp or call the National Debtline’s free advice line on 0808 808 4000. 

I encourage people to have a look at the website, or call my office if they’re struggling with repayments. Repossessions are at almost half the rate they were in the last recession, but there's still more we can do. 

The package of support can help you negotiate with your lender, tackle arrears, and get back on an even keel.
