Ed is the Co-Chair of the Holocaust Memorial Foundation, appointed by the Prime Minister with Lord Eric Pickles to advise the Government on the design and content for the national Holocaust Memorial which will be sited next to Parliament. 

A lifelong Stammerer, Ed is Vice-President of Action for Stammering Children and Patron of The British Stammering Association. He is also a Patron of Whizz-kidz and has run the London Marathon three times, raising over £160,000 for ASC and Whizz-kidz.  

Ed is a regular Red Nose Day contributor and in 2019 he joined Dani Dyer, Osi Umenyiora, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock of Little Mix, Shirley Ballas, Dan Walker, Alexander Armstrong and Anita Rani to climb Kilimanjaro, raising over £2m for Comic Relief. The band of nine began the ascent in February for a special one-hour documentary which aired on BBC One.

This #RedNoseDay, we return to Kilimanjaro. Braving the trek up Africa's tallest mountain are #LittleMix's Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Love Island's Dani Dyer, Strictly Come Dancing Head Judge Shirley Ballas, former MP Ed Balls, NFL star Osi Umenyiora, broadcaster Anita Rani, BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker and Pointless host Alexander Armstrong.
