Good morning britain
Ed is a regular presenter on ITV’s flagship breakfast show, Good Morning Britain. He has been sharing the hot seat with co-host Susanna Reid since November 2021 and also co-hosts regularly with Kate Garraway, Ranvir Singh and Charlotte Hawkins. As the nation awakes, Good Morning Britain brings us up to speed on the latest news, politics, sport, entertainment and weather, and Ed, Susanna and the team discuss and interview those involved in the biggest news stories of the day.
Inside the Care Crisis with Ed Balls
In this two-part series, Ed explores the crisis in the care sector by immersing himself in life at St Cecilia’s, a typical family-run mid-sized care home, to understand the realities facing those living and working in elderly social care. He also visits his mother who has dementia and has spent the last three years in a care home and shadows a professional carer to discover the financial hardships and emotional tolls of domiciliary care.
His exploration is timely. After a decade in which £8 billion cuts have been made to care spending, the pandemic dealt a blow which left the sector on its knees. With the government promising to raise money for health and social care through a National Insurance rise, Ed wants to find out from the people on the ground what the biggest issues are.
“A first rate and important programme” Mail on Sunday
“Balls helps with the care of elderly people in Scarborough in a way you could never imagine Boris Johnson or David Cameron doing” The Times
“Sobering stuff, and Balls carried out his duties with sensitivity and good humour” Daily Telegraph

WHAT BRITAIN BUYS AND SELLS IN A DAY
Ed presents a brand-new, three-part series for BBC Two that celebrates British ingenuity and looks at the busy world of Britain’s imports and exports. The series explores how the UK’s favourite products are made and transported to and from our islands, from avocados from Peru to salmon from the Scottish Highlands. Ed is joined by, Ade Adepitan and Cherry Healey as they take viewers behind the scenes of some of Britain’s busiest cargo hubs, including Heathrow Airport and the Port of Southampton, and onto factory floors, fisheries and plantations across the world to understand how our favourite products are made and moved. The series is a celebration of the science, logistics and people that keep Britain ticking.

TRAVELS IN TRUMPLAND
Ed travels to America's Deep South to immerse himself in the lives of those who put Trump in power, and learn how this reality TV businessman won them over. Watch clips from the series HERE
“In Travels in Trumpland, Balls wandered, with empathy and ease and caustic intelligence, through parts of the working-class south, looking, crucially, not for Hillary’s “basket of deplorables” but for the human voters behind that electoral earthquake.... Ed Balls arguably helped serve up as trenchant an analysis as anything we’ve seen”
The Observer
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?
Ed becomes the latest celebrity to uncover unknown facts about his ancestors and trace his family tree on Who Do You Think You Are. Ed grew up in a family that wanted to make the world a better place. With his mother now unable to share their family history with him due to her dementia, Ed sets out to discover what kind of characters his ancestors were. Rumours on his paternal side about a link to Nelson’s ship HMS Victory lead Ed to Portsmouth and the story of his great-great-great-grandfather William Dunbar, an assistant surgeon, but as he unravels Dunbar’s medical career he unearths a dark history of abuse and horror at a Kent workhouse. On his mother Carolyn’s side, he feels a deep connection with Christopher Green, an agricultural labourer put on trial at Norwich Castle after he stood up to defend his livelihood and community.
“Watching Balls’s smiley demeanour wobble as he wrestled with the behaviour of these two men [his 19th century ancestors William Dunbar and Christopher Green) was part of the fun of a terrific episode”
